About Dubarry of Ireland

Dubarry of Ireland was a co-operative company established in 1937 to provide employment in a small town named Ballinasloe, in Country Galway, Ireland. In the beginning Dubarry were designing and manufacturing fine leather shoes, and they very quickly developed a excellent reputation for workmanship and quality, this was due to the local population being hard working craftsmen and women.

Dubarry gets most of its inspiration from the West Coast and Galway’s sailing heritage, so they can create outstanding deck shoes. By using the finest materials available they produced their first dedicated sailing boot - the Shamrock. Following on from the success of the Shamrock they decided to begin a new venture into country boots, and they created the most famous boot of all - The Dubarry Galway Boot. Dubarry name all the products in their collection after something that is linked to Ireland, this is usually Irish towns.

Over the years, Dubarry has expanded their collection to include clothing and accessories, they now have an international sourcing network, working with closely chosen partners who share the same high standard and they work with the best components, raw materials and unique design. Although production of their boots has now moved to Portugal, the head office including the product development team are still located in the original town of Ballinasloe. Due to them being a local company, employing local people, where generations of the same families have worked, they have never lost sight of the company’s heritage.

So, why the name Dubarry? When the founders of this company started up they wanted a name that was going to make them unique from other Irish brands. They decided that they wanted a continental European name, and after doing some research decided on the name Dubarry after Madame du Barry. Madame du Barry was the daughter of a Anne Becu, a rural seamstress. In 1786, Jeanne married Comte Guillaume du Barry, therefore she became Madame du Barry. She was a well-know courtesan as well as a mistress to Louis XV.

Dubarry Boots & Shoes

Dubarry have now been designing and creating footwear for over 75 years, they understand that the footwear that they create needs to perform when you need them too. Dubarry of Ireland have a technical expertise, so you know that Dubarry’s boots will last and last. They take superior leathers, waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX product technology and specially designed soles to compose footwear that is going to keep you dry and comfortable. These boots are perfect for whatever occasion you need them for, whether it’s walking the dog, around the yard, a days shooting, strolling on the beach or even just around the town.

One of the features of the Dubarry boot, that established the brand is the award winning sole system that they created. Developed by Dubarry of Ireland themselves, the sole is precisely moulded to the upper to construct one piece, with no gluing or stitching, this way it gives the sole the perfect seal to keep the water out. The outsole is a durable rubber sole, and it has a EVA innersole ensuring it is lightweight and provides the best comfort. Dubarry have designed their boots so that they are ‘stirrup friendly’ for light equestrian use. They ensure that all their boots are tested to the max for all outdoor pursuits, and they perform impeccably in the snow.

Dubarry used premium DryFast-DrySoft leather on their boots, it is specially treated and absorbs less moisture, this then means that they require 70% less time to dry compared to other leather types, this also means that the leather remains soft and supple. Dubarry use full cowhide leather with all its natural markings.

All leather needs care and attention to give it that long lasting performance and protection. By giving the boots a little time and some attention with the correct treatments your Dubarry Boots will stay supple and waterproof for years to come.

Dubarry’s shoes have been designed and created so that they are unique and stylish, so that they perform on the shore or on the deck. They use water resistant and breathable DryFast-DrySoft leather, and they are available in a range of beautiful summer colours, or more subtle colours for the deck of the boat. They have created another award winning sole called Non Slip-Non Marking this is perfect for the Dubarry shoes as they are very often used for sailing so this sole system provides grip and durability in dry and wet conditions.

In 2017 Dubarry of Ireland designed another new sole for the mens Dubarry shoes, it is called the XL Extralight. This sole is a durable and flexible rubber outsole, it has a lightweight EVA midsole, and the materials they used are recyclable. By using this sole in Dubarry’s shoes it makes them three times lighter than normal shoes.

Dubarry Clothing

Dubarry’s clothing collection has grown since they first started out, their collection of clothing now includes tweed, outerwear, knitwear and shirts.

Their tweed designs are very unique to Dubarry of Ireland, they have developed these patterns in association with Lovats tweed mill in Scotland. They are made from 100% pure new wool. Dubarry get the names for their tweed from 4 regions within Ireland, they say that each region has different landscapes full of contrasting beauty and that inspires them to create the names. The Dubarry Jackets in tweed are truly stunning, elegant and beautiful.

All of Dubarry’s tweeds have a coating of Teflon fabric protector, this provides the tweed with protection against oil and water based stains and dust. Fabrics with the Teflon coating are easy to care for and stay looking newer for longer, which is why your Dubarry tweed jacket will look its best always.

Dubarry clothing has that classic, country look, and we have seen the Royals and celebrities attending events in Dubarry jackets. We have seen Kate Middleton in the Dubarry Bracken Jacket and Clare Balding in the Dubarry Blackthorn Jacket, and they always gain lots of positive press about their look.
